The Difference: Story-Integrated vs Generic Activities

Generic educational books: Story ends, then random clipart coloring pages with characters the child has never seen before. Same basic activities (mazes, coloring) regardless of whether the book is for 3-year-olds or 8-year-olds.

ReadnLearn’s approach: Story ends, then 6-8 activity pages featuring YOUR actual characters, settings, and story moments. Activities are designed for your book’s specific age range (3-5 year olds get matching and simple puzzles; 6-8 year olds get problem-solving and critical thinking; older kids get more complex challenges). Same illustration style, same characters, same world – activities that actually fit your story and your audience.

This format lets you price your book at $12.99-$16.99 instead of $9.99 because parents and teachers recognize legitimate educational value that connects to the story.

How We'll Work Together

After you approve the illustration style and characters, we discuss educational goals together. What should children learn from your story? I suggest age-appropriate activities, you approve concepts, then I design and illustrate the activity pages to match your book’s style. You review spreads as we complete them, keeping you involved throughout the entire process.

The Difference: Interactive App vs Digital Flipbook

Book Creator and similar tools create digital flipbooks (PDFs with page turns). We build true interactive experiences where characters move, children tap to trigger animations, mini-games reinforce story lessons, and professional narration guides young readers. It’s the difference between reading a digital book and playing with an interactive story.

How We'll Work Together

After your book illustrations are complete and approved, we discuss your app vision. What should be interactive? What mini-games make sense? What learning objectives should games reinforce? I’ll create the interactive experience based on your completed book, keeping you updated on progress and gathering feedback at key development milestones.

Who This Is For

Curious about book-to-app conversion? Turning a book into an interactive app is a strategic investment with unique economics and technical considerations. Explore our Book to App Conversion: Complete Guide to Turning Your Children’s Book into an Interactive App to understand the process, timeline, and return on investment.

The final price and timeline will be determined by the actual features of the book and the app.

Children's Book Illustration Pricing: Important Information

Page Count Pricing

All packages are based on a standard 32-page picture book (typically 12-16 full-page illustrations). If your book is longer:

Additional story spreads: $150 per illustration
Additional activity pages: Priced based on complexity (discussed during consultation)

Books under 32 pages do not receive a discount as the core character design, style development, and project setup costs remain the same.

Rush Delivery

Need your project completed faster? Rush delivery is available for **+$500** and shortens the timeline by 2-3 weeks. Availability depends on current project load. Contact us to discuss rush options for your project.

Add-On Services

Character Animations for Social Media

Want your characters to move? Animated content gets 3-5x more engagement than static images on Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts. We create custom character animations optimized for social media marketing.

Pricing varies based on animation complexity and length. See animation examples here and contact us for a custom quote.

App Source Code Purchase

By default, you own the compiled app with unlimited publishing and monetization rights. The project source code stays with us for future updates.

If you want to own the source code outright for independent development, this is available as an additional purchase. Pricing discussed during app consultation.

Why These Prices

Industry pricing for children’s book illustration follows professional standards set by organizations like SCBWI, typically $3,000-$12,000 for full books.

Every book I illustrate funds the development of therapeutic educational apps for children with autism and ADHD. This isn’t just a business, it’s a mission.

This children’s book illustration pricing model allows families to get the books they want while funding the free and affordable educational tools neurodivergent children need.

Learn more about The Mission.

Pricing & Payment

Why our pricing works this way, payment plans, refund policy, and package options.

Two reasons. First, every book I illustrate funds therapeutic app development (this isn’t just a business, it’s a mission). Second, I can only take 2-3 book projects simultaneously while maintaining quality and having time to develop apps for autism. Right now I have capacity. Once my schedule fills (typically 1 app + 2-3 books per month), prices will increase to match demand and ensure I never compromise on quality.

Yes, for packages $2,700+. Standard terms: 50% deposit to start, 25% at midpoint review, 25% upon final delivery. For app conversion ($9K-$15K), we can discuss extended payment schedules.

We design your book collaboratively. You approve each character before we proceed. You review spreads as we complete them (1-2 at a time). Once approved, that element is final and stays consistent throughout.

You get 2-3 revision rounds per element during development (if the element is not previously approved). If you’re unsatisfied with work in progress, I will refund your deposit minus completed work. This has never happened. if you approved your sample spread, you already like the style. The rest is details we’ll work through together.

Yes! You can upgrade from Tier 1 to Tier 2, or from Tier 2 to Tier 3 at any point during the project, no extra cost beyond the tier price difference. Just let me know and we’ll add the additional features to your project.

Additional story spreads are $150 per illustration. Additional educational activity pages are priced based on complexity. We’ll discuss your specific page count during consultation and provide an exact quote before starting.
